Discussion Questions:1. In English, what does the word "if" generally imply? Do think that is true here in verse one? 2. Why is it that Christians should be spiritually unified? What are some reasons for why this might not be the case at times? 3. The phrase "united in spirit" is the Greek word sumpsuchos. What are the two parts of that word? 4. From verse 2, how do you show "the same love?" What is that love? (See 1 John 2:5, 1 Corinthians 13:6, Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Peter 1:22) 5. From verses 3-4, what is the motivation of the Christian to be? 6. Who is the perfect example of this attitude and why? 7. Do you notice from verse 8 the qualities which are closely tied together? 8. Do you know what real humiliation is? 9. What will happen to those who don't bow before Jesus in this world? 10. What do you think it means to "work out your salvation with fear and trembling?" 11. Verses 12 and 13 together can help us understand how God works. What is the key principle involved in these two verses? What does "good pleasure" mean? 12. Verses 14 and 15 are important instruction on how Christians are to live. What is so crucial about the way we live? 13. What is the task of the Christian (from verse 16)? What does that mean? 14. What is Paul's hope always based in? 15. Why would Paul be encouraged learning of the Philippian's condition? 16. Evaluate Paul's heart from the first 5 verses. 17. What do we know about Timothy's character? 18. What do we know about Epaphroditus? What does his name mean? 19. The word "service" is used several times. What kind of service do you think this was?
