New Testament Study Series
2 Thessalonians 2

Discussion Questions:

1. How does the "gathering" of verse one relate to 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18?

2. Why would they have thought the day of the Lord had come? What does that imply about their understanding about the day of the Lord?

3. Paul reminds his readers that three things must first happen. What are they?

4. Who will be involved in the rebellion? Do you see any hints of it today?

5. Who is the "man of lawlessness?"

6. What will be the nature of his life on earth?

7. What does it mean that he is doomed to destruction? Is the outcome in doubt?

8. Who is it that is restraining his coming? Why is this obvious to his readers?

9. How will this restraining force be taken out of the way?

10. Who is behind the antiChrist? What will lead to his rise to power?

11. After these events, what will happen to the antiChrist?

12. What kind of effect will the antiChrist and his evil have on those left on earth?

13. What is their status and their "reward?"

14. What does Paul say about these Christians, i.e. what is their status (in contrast to "them")?

15. What does the word "chose" mean? What is the significance of the tense? What did God choose?

16. What are the processes involved?

17. Why should they have the confidence to stand firm? What has God also given to them?
